Project Overview
IHealth is Island Health’s enterprise Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, supporting one person, one record, one plan across hospitals, clinics, long-term care, and community health services. The rollout spanned hospitals, clinics, long-term care, and community health services across the region.
Alongside the clinical system, MyHealth provides patients with secure, 24/7 access to their personal health information through a public-facing digital portal.
This project focused on creating clear, consistent visual communication to support a large-scale EHR rollout across diverse care environments.
Scale & Impact
The IHealth rollout represents one of Island Health’s largest digital health initiatives:
22,482 health care professionals using the EHR
14 hospitals, 285 clinics, 18 long-term care facilities, 7 community health units
20,358 daily log-ins with 3.1M average daily transactions
151,000+ citizens enrolled in MyHealth
For a snapshot of the system’s scale and adoption, see [IHealth by the Numbers].
The breadth of the rollout required communication that was easy to understand, highly visible, and consistent across locations.

On-site Go-Live communications used across multiple care facilities.

My Role
I worked as a Communication Designer, contributing to visual and communication design across the iHealth Go-Live and adoption phases.
This work was completed as part of Island Health’s internal communications and implementation team.
What I Designed
Defined standards for typography, colour, iconography, and usage to ensure consistency across all materials.
Environmental and on-site communications
Signage, posters, roll-up banners, and wayfinding assets used across hospitals and care facilities during Go-Live.
Digital communications
Email newsletters, internal announcements, and supporting materials for staff awareness and readiness.
Web and public-facing assets
Visual content and layouts supporting iHealth and MyHealth web pages, aligned with Island Health brand standards.
Design Approach
Clarity first — prioritizing legibility and calm communication in clinical environments.
Consistency at scale — designing systems that could be applied across hundreds of sites.
Human-centred communication — supporting both care providers and patients during a major system transition.
Outcome
The visual system and communication materials supported a smoother EHR Go-Live by helping staff and patients navigate change with confidence. The work translated a complex technical transformation into communication that was clear, reliable, and human.
